about

Chicago’s The Bishop’s Daredevil Stunt Club, masters of sophisticated, edgy power pop, return with “Please Stand By”, the followup to their 2019 “End Over End”. The new record earned its title in a eureka moment as time slipped on by (the band almost collectively said, yep that’s it!) The twelve resultant tracks were picked from among 27 written by William Giricz. The album has a definite retro feel, but with a slightly rough edge in line with previous BDSC works. Opener “Pony Up” is a Cheap Trick meets Sloan style “dare”, a call to get out, stay out, have some fun and do something unpredictable, instead being “super ready to go to bed by nine”. As a teaser for the album, three singles were released - “Tremor Control II”, “Hold You Up”, and “Fifty Foot Woman”. Of “Tremor Control II” “They tap into the craziness and non-stop anxiety that was the year 2020 which channels Cheap Trick by way of The Cars.” Who's ready for some power pop? ‘Hold You Up’ has an early 80’s radio feel but with a modern touch. Imagine if The Cars wrote an homage to ‘Jessie's Girl" and time traveled to present day. I dig how this tune starts off sounding like a very typical love song but then starts to layer on the complications. If you dig punchy, hooky pop that's simultaneously retro and contemporary, ‘Hold You Up’ is highly recommended.” – FasterandLouder.com “Originally titled ‘That Can’t Be Right’, ‘Fifty Foot Woman’ is a fun romp that harkens to an excitable White Stripes style percussion and progression, dressed in wild and broad ranging kitsch apropos of the classic B-movie for which it was ultimately named. Giricz's lead vocal and angular guitar solo punctuate the confusion, while the percussion leaves an indelible impression, as the footsteps that shake the earth make their way. You can almost picture the entire band looking up at this beautiful monster with only a Flying V, a black Les Paul and some twirling drumsticks to defend themselves.”

Three years in the making, "Please Stand By" is finally here. So let's trip the 'On Air' light above the door, let's roll the footage, let's 'whap' the clapperboard and somebody yell, "ACTION!", because these tracks are ready to get...it...ON!!
